Album: Ingrams and Ingram Brothers

This Company was started in 1890 in Melbourne Australia and initially sold mechanical clocks and watches of good to high quality. They also serviced marine Chronometers and the Melbourne observatory clocks. The Company was originally called Ingram Brothers but had a few changes around the Ingram name over the years.

Around 1910 they started selling commercial electric clocks such as Silentia mantle clocks and Magneta master/slave systems.

In 1924 they made their first Tower clock with a 3 legged gravity escapement with electric winding of the weights.

By 1931 they were manufactured their own master slave time systems and installing them in Melbourne Office and Factory complexes.

In 1931 they also manufactured and installed tower clocks using a Hipp toggle type waiting train design. One particularly large clock in Western Australia used a motor drive rather than a hipp toggle but utilised the waiting train principle.

Throughout the next thirty years they manufactured and installed office and factory master/slave clock systems and tower clocks – mainly in the State of Victoria in Australia.

The company was bought in the 1960’s by the Ekselman family who it is believed still own it. Ingrams are still an active small Company under the name Ingrams Time Systems. They sell mainly imported products and service their old customer’s existing systems.

The documents section has a more comprehensive illustrated Pdf presentation of their history.

Not to be confused with the US company Ingraham or a UK company Ingram.
